All-American Vacations // Best of 2014

Want to get a true taste of America and marvel at the nation's natural wonders?

Well here are some all-American vacation destinations just in time for the Fourth of July!

Black Hills, Dakotas

Want remote, rugged beauty with a heaping helping of Americana? Then heading to the Dakotas should be on your summer schedule! Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorials are some of the largest mountain carvings in the world. You may see buffalo, prairie dogs, deer, and maybe even wild horses! This is a great trip to explore these historic sites!

Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

Looking for a gorgeous body of water and a great place to hike? Crater Lake National Park is the place to go. You will not see a body of water this blue at many places. The lake is surrounded by cliffs and craters. You can try your hand at fishing or enjoy a picnic with a gorgeous view!

Nantucket Island, Massachusetts

Nantucket is just off the coast of Cape Cod and is full of New England charm. You will find great restaurants, eclectic shops, and stunning beaches. Find a quaint inn to stay in and you will feel right at home in Nantucket!

Everglades National Park, Florida

Going to the Everglades is a very unique experience. You will encounter subtropical plants, birds, and rare wildlife. You may even see a manatee. Take an airboat tour and make sure to keep an eye out for alligators and crocodiles. This is a must to add to your bucket list!

Disney World // Best Hotels

Disney World is the place where dreams come true. I have only been twice, both times when I was young. But I am dying to go again as an adult! Everything there is magical. You become a kid again and watching the happiness in the eyes of children is priceless as they meet their favorite characters. The theme park is not the only place to experience the magic. The resorts are famous for their activities, pools and dining!

There are twenty-six resorts on the Walt Disney World property run by Disney. Which means there are plenty of options when it comes to choosing where to stay. There a many different price ranges, atmospheres and themes.

When I went to Disney World we stayed in the Grand Floridian Resort. The resort has a Victorian era feel with intricate and soaring architecture. It is beautifully decorated and is home to some of the finest dining in Disney World. You can have breakfast with your favorite Disney characters, attend a tea party hosted by the Mad Hatter and Alice and also have snacks with the Disney Princesses. Perfect for adult and children alike! I remember the amazing pool with water slides and and the Seven Seas Lagoon beach pool!

For the animal lovers, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is an ideal place to stay while vacationing to Disney World. Animal Kingdom gets you up-close-and-personal with the animals and it makes you want to never leave. Luckily, you don't! Animal Kingdom Lodge is built in a horseshoe shape with rooms looking out into a 46-acre savanna of zebras, giraffes and many other types of free-roaming animals! The resort also features an 11,000-square-foot pool with a waterslide surrounded by a canopy of trees and palms. Gives it an African feel! Enjoy award-winning dining and supervised children's activities!

For a more New England feel, a stay at the Yacht & Beach Club will be fitting. This hotel is actually two resorts connected together by three lagoons with a pirate ship waterslide. The Yacht Club has a lavish New England seashore hotel look while the Beach Club is more New England beach cottage. Both resorts have a wonderful water recreation area and mouthwatering family-friendly dining! These resorts are in walking distance to Epcot!

The BoardWalk resort is an Atlantic-style resort. You can stroll along the boardwalk lining the hotel and find funnel cakes, carnival games and even a dueling piano bar! You will find there is so much to do at this resort! You can grab a hot dog while you walk along the waterfront or sit down at a fine dining restaurant. The options are endless! Also a short walk to Epcot!

The newest resort at Disney World is the Art of Animation. There are four distinct themed sections: Finding Nemo, Cars, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid. Each section has artwork from the movie and themed rooms. It is home to the largest pool of all the Disney resorts. The plunge pool is inspired by Finding Nemo and even has underwater speakers. The resort also hosts movies under the stars so you can watch a nighttime Disney movie outdoors in the Courtyard. Starting at just $110 per night this is a perfect resort for families with smaller children!

Now with all this being said, I want to go to Disney World! Who is in?

Family Time // Five Great Water Parks in the Caribbean

Going to the Caribbean is pretty much a water park in itself. The gorgeous blue water, tons of activities and gorgeous waterfalls and hiking trails!

When I used to take family vacations as a child, my sister and I would always beg to go to the local water parks. Some place called "Splash Adventure" or "WaterWorld". Such great memories were made those summers!

So when traveling as a family to the Caribbean, many people forget that some resorts actually have a water park affiliated with the resort. How awesome is that!

Kool Runnings
Jamaica's Kool Runnings in Negril is freestanding, which means it is not affliliated with a resort. The water park is easy to access with convenient parking, which isn't always the case for resort-based water parks.
The five-acre park has 10 water slides (the largest is 40-feet high), with colorful names like Duppy Conqueror and Kick Puppalick. There's also a play area for the tiny tots and a lazy river with waterfalls. Kool Runnings also has a juice bar, sports bar and three restaurants. Visitors to Kool Runnings can get a special price when they combine their ticket with the adjacent and affiliated Adventure Zone, where they can indulge in paintball battles, laser tag and go-kart races.

Pirate's Island
Over the last decade or so Beaches Turks & Caicos has been setting the bar for family vacations. Little kids stop in their tracks when they encounter life-size Sesame Street characters, while teens peel off to disappear in the resort's xBox lounge.
One place they all come together is the resort's 45,000-square-foot Pirate's Island water park. There are lots of exciting features that will keep kids on their toes, including ten water slides, water cannons, and spray features. Those looking for a gentler diversion can float down the park's 650-foot Lazy River and there's a zero-entry pool for the littlest ones just learning to walk, let alone swim. The "wow" factor attraction at Pirate's Island is the Surf-Simulator, which allows surfers of all experience levels a chance to hang ten on a variety of recreated wave conditions.
Beaches Turks & Caicos is an all-inclusive resort, which means all of the water park activities are included.

Aquaventure
Atlantis Paradise Island is a destination unto itself. The sprawling resort complex contains the 141-acre Aquaventure, a huge water park playground of 12 pools and nine waterslides. There are even water escalators for kids who want to save all their energy for the twists and turns of the water slides.
Additional features at the Mayan-themed water park include a snorkeling lagoon, a mile-long lazy river, and a kids-themed water fort. Friendly competition can be had on the Challenger Slide, where two people can race each other down the twin slides and then see who was fastest by comparing speeds on the slide's time clock.
Admission to Aquaventure is complimentary for guests staying at Atlantis; day passes are on sale for those not staying at the resort but availability is sometimes limited.

Sirenis Aquagames
The all-inclusive Sirenis Punta Cana Resort Casino in the beachfront destination of Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, recently made a stay at their resort even more appealing. They now include free admission for resort guests to the adjacent Sirenis Aquagames. This is a nice perk, especially for families with more than one kid, since they'll also be able to eat for free at the water park.
Sirenis Aquagames has ten water slides, including the Aquaracer, a high speed, four lane slide; and the Stuka, where a sensation of free fall provides a real thrill. The littlest kids can cavort in the Babies' Animals Area, where they'll find a zero-entry shallow pool, animal slides and ultra-safe conditions

CocoLand
St. Lucia is one of the Caribbean's most scenic islands, lush and tropical. Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa is tucked away on the island's south coast. The resort is actually two resorts in one, with one side designated adults-only, while the other side, called "Splash" caters to families with kids. Splash is also the site of CocoLand, the island's largest water park. Here guests can cavort on a number of rides, including tubing along a lazy river featuring an occasional waterfall or racing through the Coconut Coaster slide, which hurtles riders along a twisting route before plunging them into a pool. The ride offering the biggest bang is the Coconut Cannon, the resort's high speed water slide.

Summer 2014 // Travel Destinations to Consider

Where do you want to travel this summer? While I can't choose your vacation for you, I can certainly narrow down your choice of destinations. And I can guarantee you will have the time of your life at any of these six locations!

Croatia

While Croatia as a whole is gorgeous, I urge you to visit the city of Dubrovnik. The walled city is a genuine medieval location. It is one of the most picturesque places in the world and is certainly the main draw in Croatia. Dubrovnik is surrounded by the Adriatic Sea which provides sizable beaches that are close to the city center. The weather is usually mild, making for wonderful weather to explore the city!

France

Any place in France is unbelievable. I mean it is FRANCE! But the place I suggest visiting is Normandy. There is so much history to be found there. It will blow you away. This year is the best summer to visit because it is the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and there will be many events scheduled from June-August. A must see for this summer. It will be something you will never forget.

Scotland

Scotland is home to natural beauty. This year is the year of the Scottish Homecoming, so there will be dozens of events, festivals and activities planned. The perfect time to visit! There will be delicious food and music as well! Scotland has so much to do from going on a hike in the national forest to taking a tour of the historic castles.

Sweden

Sweden is one of those places you don't automatically think to travel to. But it should be. Most people do not know that Sweden is home to wonderful music. Mostly punk and heavy metal, but it is so unique and special to Sweden. Also, for a design lover, Stockholm is a great place to experience the culture and design of the city. Really absorb the beauty of European design.

Germany

The city I urge you to visit is Hamburg. This is mainly for those Beatles fans since there are so many landmarks from their early years as a band in Hamburg. Such as local pubs they played in, sculptures representing the group and even a plaza named after them. Hamburg is a great place to see local music as well and there is so much to see while visiting. It is the second largest city in Germany with an ample amount of museums, city cruises and old churches to tour.

Japan

Since the announcement of the 2020 Summer Olympics being held in Tokyo, the city has been even more bustling with new attractions. Tokyo is no stranger to large crowds, so be prepared for many tourists and by many I mean thousands. With that beings said, Tokyo has so much to offer such as unlimited shopping, entertainment and dining options.

Happy Travels!
