Five Common Mistakes When Planning Your Honeymoon!

5 Common mistakes in planning your honeymoon

1Making your decision based solely on price.  Getting married is expensive!  Your wedding will last only 1 day.  Your honeymoon will be 5 days or more.  So the same consideration should be given to your honeymoon as you give to your wedding.  There are so many factors to consider when planning your trip.  And sometimes…for a minimal increase you can go from "cheap" to choosing a "once in a lifetime" honeymoon experience.
 2.  Relying on the Internet to book your dream vacation.  The Internet is a great source of information if you understand that there are unreliable sources in abundance.  What may look amazing on line could possibly be a catastrophe once you get there.  Even online reviews have become suspect lately with people being paid to post favorable reviews or to delete unfavorable reviews.  You are a unique person with individual dreams for your honeymoon.  Subjective reviews are just that, subjective.  You don't know how experienced the traveler is who posts, what their expectations were, or what else may have happened to influence their post.  It is better to use a trusted advisor to help your make your selection.
 3. Turning over the honeymoon planning to a relative.  A popular trend is for a parent or relative to help pay for the honeymoon.  This is a generous gift.  However, when someone else makes decisions on your honeymoon they may be purchasing based on what they like instead of what you want.  Your honeymoon should be about you.  Take ownership of it or, at least, invite the relative to meet and discuss with your travel consultant.
 4.  Not getting travel insurance.  H1N1, hurricanes, volcanic ash…you never know what may happen.  We booked a honeymoon for a couple and on the day of their wedding the groom's grandmother died at their reception.  Thankfully, they had purchased travel insurance and were able to postpone their honeymoon at no additional cost.  Travel insurance is worth the investment.
 5.  Doing it yourself (DIY).  You wouldn't arrange your own flowers, bake your own cake, or print your own invitations.  Your honeymoon is one of the most important items you purchase.  Using a professional travel planner is just as important as a reliable florist, caterer, or printer.  A travel consultant plans vacations as a profession not a pastime.  She/he can help you decide and plan a honeymoon that will reflect your personality and lifestyle while considering your budget.  She/he will be with you not only from the point of purchase but all the way through the experience until you return.  They have formed unique relationships with the sales managers at many resorts and can often arrange for special upgrades and amenities.
