Irish Holiday

With Valentine's Day over and February coming to an end, St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner. I have always loved St. Patrick's Day because I have always had a fascination with Ireland. Ireland just so happens to be one of  the "hot" spots to visit this year, so maybe this will be MY year. One can dream!

What makes Ireland so spectacular? It is full of history, delicious food, gorgeous landscapes and home to some of the friendliest locals you will ever meet. Whether you are interested in trying all the tasty brews and food, enjoying nature and countryside or shopping, Ireland has something to offer you.

When traveling to Ireland there are numerous types of places you can stay ranging from a hostel to an ancient castle. Bed and Breakfast style lodging is the most popular in Ireland. From what I have heard from friends and family that have traveled to Ireland, the best advice is to stay at a B&B and rent a car. That way you can explore as much of Ireland as you want!

When looking around for destination facts, I always turn to the Travel Channel. And this time was no exception. I found a article about the top five B&Bs in Ireland. The first one is in Western Ireland in County Galway. To be honest when I think of Galway, I can't seem to get the song Galway Girl by Steve Earle out of my head. Your welcome! This B&B is called Cregg Castle Bed and Breakfast. It is surrounded by 165 acres and you feel right at home just a few miles away from the city. The innkeepers cook you food found on the farm.

Another one on the list is in Dublin. When you think of Ireland, Dublin is usually the first place people think about. It is a bustling city with designer shopping, magnificent cuisine and wonderful site seeing. The B&B is called The Blackstone House and is less than two miles away from the city. Can't get better than that! It is close to Grafton Street which is a shopper's heaven. The B&B is also near the Dublin Castle which is a 13th century castle that was used as a prison. Definitely worth a visit.

Now if food is your thing, Ireland is going to definitely please you! When passing through Dublin, do not leave without trying a meal at the Old Storehouse. It is one of the favorite restaurants of people who live in Ireland and also of those who vacation there. It is Irish cuisine and they feature live music.

Almost anywhere you go you will find traditional Irish food. This includes meat, potatoes and beer. Did I mention beer? Ireland is home to Guinness Stout Beer. You will find it on tap at every pub.

Now that we have lodging and food covered, what about local attractions. Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle, and for a good reason. It is vibrant green and when the sun shines, it is one of the most beautiful places on the face of the Earth. Venture to the mighty Cliffs of Moher. They are located in the southwestern edge of Burren. They are Ireland's most visited natural attraction.

If you are a lover of beer, venture to the St. James Guinness Brewery in Dublin and pour your OWN Guinness. Believe it or not, but there is a right way to pour the perfect Guinness.  It is an art!
